Why did she have to get stuck with the new guy?
She wasn't sure if Director Shacklebolt hated her or if the man simply wanted to "teach her a lesson" after the last new hire incident. As if there were anything she could have done about that. It wasn't her fault that Bill was a moron that kept forgetting his password. It wasn't her fault that Bill couldn't tell the difference between PowerShell and Command Line. It wasn't her fault that Bill was more interested in getting her to agree to a date instead of reimaging machines.
She tapped her foot impatiently and looked up at the clock. It was nearly time for the new hire to arrive, perhaps she could...
A knock at her door.
Without waiting for her to answer the door to the IT room was pushed open and the smiling face of Kingsley Shacklebolt appeared. She stood and took a deep breath before turning towards them just as her boss stepped aside. She paused and could feel her eyes widen ever-so-slightly at the bespectacled man who trailed. He was sharply dressed in a pair of slacks and a flattering garnet button down shirt, but that's not what made the breath catch in her throat. Behind his rimmed glasses were the deepest set of green eyes she'd ever seen.
What kind of tall drink of water had they hired?
"...Fleur? Are you going to give Mr. Potter his new hire form?" she heard Kingsley say, breaking her stare at the new arrival. She shook her head. Now was not the time to get distracted. She had to quickly get him up to speed before month-end close started and there wasn't much time. Kingsley smile when she nodded at him. "Good. Fleur, this is Harry. Harry this is Fleur. I hate to run but I've got a budget meeting. Don't worry Mr. Potter, you're in good hands."
Kingsley shot her a look.
"Behave."
She rolled her eyes and gestured to the desk next to hers before grabbing a paper and handing it to Harry. "Here are your credentials to login. Your admin account credentials are just below that. You'll be prompted to change your password upon first login. Go ahead and get logged in. You'll setup your own machine later but we've got to get you trained on the new accounting system because month-end close is in two days. Our accounting department knows how to multiply and divide but they don't know shit about computers."
Harry laughed, and the sound made her push back a blush. They sat and she thought it would be some time before he figured out how to access everything. She'd setup the RDP program on his machine, so everything was there, but they always acted like a fish out of water. Especially on the fir-
"Alright, I'm in and I logged into the ACCOUNTING01 server. It was the only one in the Connection Manager app so I figured you wanted me to go there," Harry said.
Fleur rolled over to him and peered at his screen. Sure enough, he'd managed the basics. Interesting. She pointed at the screen.
"Good, now go ahead and open the icon on the desktop. The green one..." she trailed off at they locked eyes, his emerald eyes twinkling as he nodded. She suddenly felt as if the room were too hot, but that wasn't possible because their room shared an AC with the server room.
He opened the application and logged in, looking to her for direction. Their eyes locked once more and she quickly looked away to begin his training.
They spent two hours going over everything and it struck her just how...normal he was. He took direction well, asked questions when he needed clarification, and even cracked a joke or two. The corners of his eyes wrinkled each time he smiled at her, and each time she looked away because damn those green eyes. Several times she'd gotten distracted by those endless pools, cursing herself each time before getting back on task.
The rest of her coworkers wanted to sleep with her, or worse, were idiots. She got the sense Harry was just...normal.
The door opened once more and Kingsley strolled through. He stopped at the door and raised an eyebrow.
"You're still training on the accounting system? That only takes an hour," he said.
She paused and looked at the clock. She tried to come up with a response, but a single glance at Harry had her turning back to her boss and bolting upright.
"I'm taking a break," she said hurriedly before pushing past Kingsley and out into the hallway. She was past the entrace and walking the parking garage before she allowed herself to think.
"Damn those green eyes..."
