The hearing before Harry’s fifth year went wrong. He was expelled from Hogwarts and his wand snapped. Fortunately, there was another school who quickly offered him a spot. Based on the recommendation of Viktor Krum, Harry gets offered a spot at Durmstrang.
But first, he needs a wand. Ollivander is not allowed to sell him one, but a wandmaker on the continent has no such problems. He is a jovial fellow, built like a bear, with close shaven hair and beard.
Harry is faced with a selection of oddly shaped wands and asked to which one he feels a pull. He closes his eyes and grabs one of them.
The wandmaker gives a jolly laugh. “A good choice. Now, let me show you its features!”
