Modern , high school AU. Harry, Ron , Neville and Seamus aren't that popular. Sure, they have a small friend group and are pretty friendly with Dean Thomas, one of the most popular guys at the school, but that's not enough for them to get girlfriends. They only girls they actually know aren't interested in them anyway, or so they think.
So the four friends spend the summer hanging out at Ron's house, uninvited to any parties.
One fateful day, Ron's sister Ginny- who is trying out for the junior cheer squad- asks Harry and Seamus to help her with a flip, as Ron thought it was weird catching and throwing his own sister. And as Harry is helping her, he actually has A LOT of fun cheering, even if Seamus thinks he looks dumb doing it. The week before cheer tryouts is ending and Ginny suggests that Harry join, saying she thinks he'll be really good.
Harry thinks it's a wonderful idea. So he tells Ron, Neville and Seamus.
Ron is against it at first, thinking they'd be even MORE of a laughing stock at school, but Seamus tells that being the only guys on the cheer team will help their chances to get girls skyrocket. Neville says it sounds fun, and that his Gran would probably approve of him getting more exercise.
Harry, Ron, Neville and Seamus go to tryouts and barely manage to make the team, due in no small part to Harry's natural athleticism and the team genuinely needing some muscle.
Now on the team, they're put through the ringer and learn cheering isn't as easy as it looks. Later they all get sent to cheer camp.
And Seamus and Ron are in heaven, while Neville is really shy. But Harry could really care less about all the pretty girls in workout clothes, as he's just really into cheering-
-that is until he sees the senior cheer Captain, Fleur Delacour
Now, Harry has to chose between focusing on his love of cheering or a beautiful girl...
...but why can't he have both?
